While many of the other art form got tied up in the limits of its complicated mode of interaction, Thullal entered directly in to the heart of its all type of audience through a simple and colorful language of the art. When an art form came with a blend of different characters by a single performer, it become a new exciting experience!! The artists take the help of facials expressions and symbols of hands called ‘Mudras’ to narrate the story in a simple way.

In fact, it was a small revenge happen over two personals that made this great art form in to the reality. The  story is as follows. On those days, “Chakyar koothu” was a very popular form of art in most of the temples, which gives prime importance to satire. It was accompanied by the beats of an instrument called “Mizhavu” during its poetic presentation. One day, Nambyar who played the Mizhavu for Chakyar, fell asleep in the middle of the performance and the Chakyar used this opportunity to make a huge pour of satire on him. To make a revenge on this happening, Nambyar created a new art overnight, and presented it in a venue opposite to the Chakkyar Koothu in its time. Attracted over the new performance by Nambyar , all the audience of Chakyar now turned over him and there started the glittering story of a most popular art form of Kerala, “The Ottanthullal”. “Kalyanasougandhikam” was the first Thullal story written and performed by Kunchan Nambyar. Extracted over the limited venues of the Temples, Ottanthullal now excites thousands of its audience all over the state and even out of the country border.
